The Eye of the PlayStation

Sony has announced the launch of the next-generation EyeToy peripheral starting October 23.

This one is designed specifically for the PlayStation 3, and named the PlayStation Eye.
It will come bundled with free software package EyeCreate, allowing users to record videos, audio and photos, which can be stored on the PS3's hard drive.

The PlayStation Eye is the successor to the EyeToy for the PlayStation 2.
a digital camera device, similar to a webcam, that uses computer vision to process images taken by the camera.
It allows players to interact with games using motion, color detection and even sound, through its in-built microphone.

PlayStation Eye is capable of capturing standard video with high frame rates of 60 hertz at a 640x480 pixel resolution, and 120 hertz at 320x240 pixels, which is "four times the resolution" and "two times the frame-rate" of the EyeToy, according to Sony and the boy below:

The peripheral will be sold in a bundle with The Eye of Judgment in the United States for US$69.99 starting October 23, 2007, in Japan and Australia on October 25, 2007 for JP¥9,980 and AU$159.95, and in Europe on November 7, 2007 for £69.99.
PlayStation Eye will also be available as a stand-alone product, for $39.99 at all major retailers.
